BLURRING THE BOUNDARIES

Slowly starting to blur the boundaries between fashion and photography again as I run out of Sri Lankan photos and make my way through the pile of magazines that have sat unread all summer.

Seeking some inspiration from the depths of the Internet never hurt either.

LEFT MY HEART

So I'm home, I'm back to normality and reality.

But I think I might have just left my heart on that idyllic isle.

Every country has its flaws but with Sri Lanka, I've found that the only way you can truly appreciate the country for what it genuinely is is to just take the good with the bad and accept them both. It takes a mixture of everything to create a place worth seeing and exploring and once you can embrace that attitude, Sri Lanka becomes a country full of opportunity and discovery. Well it did for me anyway.

Sri Lanka is an experience like no other, a country that I cannot and will not ever be able to compare to any other. It is an island that produces some of the finest gems in the world, the spiciest chillies, the freshest coconuts and of course not forgetting one of the most poisonous drinks, arrack, a potion that some label a national treasure.

I have learnt to eat rice and curry with my right hand, how to stand up (sort of) on a surfboard, how to haggle for a tuk-tuk price and how to embrace every aspect of this incredible land.
For those of you who might follow in my footsteps I offer this advice: respect the country you are in and accept the place for what it is.

If you do that, you might just find yourself never wanting to leave.

THE LAST RAYS

So today marks my final day on the South Coast.

I cannot quite believe that three months is up. It has gone so ridiculously fast, I don't even know where the time has gone.
It only feels like last week that I arrived in Sri Lanka, too hot, a bit homesick and with no idea what the next few months were going to entail.

In the end, it has turned out to be the most incredible few months.
I have experienced things I could never have dreamed of and met people who have inspired, horrified, angered and amazed me.

Sri Lanka has been nothing that I expected it to be.

But it has been so much more.

Probably one of the greatest spots high in the clouds in Colombo

So I'm about to start my last week in this incredible country.

I can't believe how fast time has flown by nor just how much I have seen, done and achieved since being here.
And also just how much I have learnt in such a short space of time. It's mind blowing.

These are a selection of random snapshots from my last week in the city and an afternoons escape to the beach.

That final photo cannot even begin to capture the 360 degree view that I had of Colombo at sunset.
It was breathtaking, yet another example of how this country never ceases to surprise and amaze me.

MOUNT LAVINIA

Mount Lavinia is the closest beach to the city of Colombo and so it is where I headed off to last weekend to relax and take a time out from the busy city life.

These photos show the progression of the setting sun, a process which was over in about five minutes.

It was a sheer spectacle and one that I enjoyed from the balcony of the beach bar that you can see in the first photo.

I realise that many of my posts are of the sunset...

I guess you could say that I am just chasing the sun, every place I visit just transforms it completely giving me an entirely new photo that is nothing like the previous one.

My time here in Sri Lanka is almost up, only a couple of weeks are left which is bizarre when it feels like just last week I was packing to leave.

I can promise that there will be many more sunsets to enjoy between now and then.
And maybe some other photos too! Maybe...

MONDAY MOTIVATION #10

Travelling for me is one of life's greatest gifts.

The fact that you can, in theory, go anywhere you want whenever you want to is quite amazing.
And by any means too whether it be a road trip, a ten hour flight or a quick boat ride.

Travelling is what life should be full of and I'm so excited that I'm only just beginning.

It's St.Augustine though who says it best, linking two of my greatest pleasures.

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
